Silver and Amber publication

I just signed up for the 'Publish a book 2008' challenge over at kiwiwriters.

I'm editing and polishing 'Silver and Amber', my Nano in 2007 and my only written novel, for it.

Silver and Amber is something I had so much fun writing and yet it's something I haven't told many about. I'd so like to rave to my mum about it. Go all "Guess what mum, I written a novel. Could you ever believe I could do that?" But I can't. Because then she'd want to read it. And....

... my dirty little secret concerning S&A is that it's a fantasy romance bordering strongly on erotica. Gay erotica. The reason for this? It's simple: I like writing it and it has a market. I know how I could pimp it and how well it would be received.

I'm still proud of it and am not ashamed of having written it. It's still a shame that I can't share it with all my nearest and dearest. (Well except for my sister, she's liked it.)

But I'd have to admit that I'd feel very very odd if it ever get's published because I can't tell anyone. And I realized that I need a nom de plume for it because publishing it under my real name... not going to happen. So that's that. My secrets's out. Throw the tomatoes and ready the noose.

I'll not go down easily!

1 - Hey Saraste, as soon as you said you liked manga and fanfic I did wonder if you were a slash writer ;) (not that all fans of manga and fanfic are slashers, of course...)

I write slash, too. And I've had it published (not under my own name though). I also wrote het erotic romance because my publishers were really pushing for it, but the biggest sellers are the m/m stories.

I don't mind a bit of het but my heart is in m/m fiction. My final book (a duology of short het stories) under my current pseudonym will be released next week; after that I'm retiring that pseudonym to focus entirely on m/m fiction.

The market is growing every day and there's more and more publishers welcoming m/m stories. I hope you find a home for 'Silver & Amber' this year!

Oh and I know what you mean about not being able to tell your mum. I had a huge fight with my mother about what I wrote. "How can I tell people what you write, it's terrible blah blah blah." The funniest thing was when I got the cover art for one book. She looked at it and said "They look a bit.... homosexual." I said, "Mum, they ARE."

Write whatever you want to write. If people judge you, that's their choice. You will definitely find an audience ready and waiting to buy your book :)

2 - Oh, yes, slasher and proud of it. I don't even hang out in the 'normal' fandom circles that much.

Oh my, another slash writer! I actually strayed into the realm of het with 'Silver and Amber', it's sorta bi in places what with some creative gender bending. SO need a pseudonym.

Oh wow, published and all. I envy you so much. But, I'm working towards that. I have found a few quite nice online publishers who do both e-books and printed ones and I think I might approach one of those. Would you mind me asking what publisher do you use?

Thank you for the encouragement!

3 - 'Silver & Amber' sounds more and more interesting! E-publishing is definitely the way to go, I'm sure you'd find a home for your book for certain (after all, I've read dragon mpreg from one publisher!).

I've sent you a KiwiMail on the forum about publishers.
